Higher Level Teaching Assistant job summary

We are looking for innovative, inspirational HLTA who puts the welfare and progress of children at the centre of everything they do and are able to support our students in reaching their full potential. Avanti House is a high achieving school where the behaviour and attitudes to learning, by all students are exceptional. Students have an established and meaningful ‘voice’ through the prefect system and school council. It is through working in close partnership with parents and students that the school has grown exponentially since its opening. When Ofsted inspectors visited the school in April 2018, they reported: “Through working as a team and developing shared culture of high expectations, you and your leadership team have created a learning community that pupils say ‘feels like a family’.” Ofsted 2018 At Avanti House we deliver a rounded education to nurture confident and creative young people who will thrive in adult life. We put an equal emphasis on the highest academic achievement alongside the development of character and spiritual insight. Avanti House is part of the growing family of Avanti schools. Avanti schools are Hindu-designated faith schools. However, staff and students at Avanti House School do not originate from any specific faith background; applications are welcome from practitioners of any faith and from those of none. They will, however, be expected to be in full sympathy with the unique ethos and vision of the School. This is a unique opportunity to help develop a new and innovative school, which will be shaped by three key elements for both students and staff: • Educational excellence • Character formation • Spiritual insight We are looking for someone who: • will show commitment to working to support and enhance the school's spiritual ethos; • will enjoy a challenge and be able to motivate and improve a growing school; • is aspiring to become, if not already, an excellent classroom practitioner; • is resourceful, dynamic and brings a clear understanding of assessment of learning. We are able to offer: • a strong vision of Educational Excellence, Character Formation and Spiritual Insight; • enthusiastic, motivated and friendly children; • a committed and motivated staff team; • an attractive working environment; • supportive parents; • great opportunities for professional development. The successful candidate for this post will require HLTA status. The ideal candidate will be committed in working with students with a wide range of special educational needs including ASD, ADHD, hearing impairment, emotional, social and mental health need, together with an interest and considerable expertise in supporting second language learners. A caring, flexible and common-sense approach is vital as well as being pro-active and demonstrating a can-do attitude. Applying Due to the nature of this role, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken. In making your application, it is essential you disclose whether you have any pending charges, convictions, bind-overs or cautions and, if so, for which offences. This post will be exempt from the provisions of Section 4 (2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Therefore, applicants are not entitled to withhold information about convictions which for other purposes are ‘spent’ under the provision of the Act, and, in the event of the employment being taken up; any failure to disclose such convictions will result in dismissal or disciplinary action. The fact that a pending charge, conviction, bind-over or caution has been recorded against you will not necessarily debar you from consideration for this appointment. Avanti Schools Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and requires all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All successful candidates are required to have an Enhanced DBS check. We welcome applications from both men and women of all ages from any background and from candidates with disabilities. This is a rolling advert and applications will be reviewed weekly. Application forms can be downloaded at www.avanti.org.uk/careers and must be submitted to careers@avanti.org.uk once fully completed. The successful candidate will be required to sign the application declaration on appointment. Any appointment subsequently made will be subject to the receipt of satisfactory references and other pre-employment checks.

Avanti House Secondary School is an inclusive Hindu faith school based in Harrow, open to students of all faiths.

What makes Avanti Secondary School distinctive is its values-based approach to education. This encourages students to value self, others and the environment and empowers them to be effective learners as well as good citizens. The school offers a traditional and extensive curriculum, but also offers a focused study of Ethics, Philosophy, Sanskrit, Meditation and Yoga.

In 2022 our Year 11 students gained excellent GCSE examination results with 89% of students gaining at least a Grade 4 in both their Mathematics and English qualifications. Students gained excellent results in a wide range of subjects across the curriculum and many have progressed into our Sixth Form. Our Sixth Form has grown from an initial 36 students in 2018 to over 320 this year. This highlights the quality of the teaching and learning across the school and the vast majority of the pupils studying in our Sixth Form progress onto their first choice universities and apprenticeship schemes.

A wide range of extra-curricular opportunities enable the students to develop their own characters and become outstanding citizens. Our most recent Ofsted highlights that the behaviour and attitudes shown by pupils and adults are exemplary and the provision for pupils, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is exceptional.

Avanti House Secondary School is based in a large site in Wemborough Road, Stanmore. The multi-million pound complex boasts state of the art science labs, computing rooms, design and technology workshops and classrooms that will enable students to make outstanding progress through exceptional teaching and learning. The fantastic sports and arts facilities also enable the students to excel and further develop their passions in these areas through extra-curricular activities and our successful sports teams.
