Joseph Norton Academy in Huddersfield is a special academy educating children and young people with complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties across Kirklees. As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant HLTA you will be supporting outstanding progress in learning. You will make connections, develop relationships and lead our pupils on the path to a bright future. This will include working under the guidance of a teacher/ phase lead to support the academic and personal development of children throughout the school day. This includes:

  • Supporting and leading a class

  • Ability to form relationships and communicate effectively

  • Manage student behaviour in the classroom and handle disruptive behaviour, always promoting a positive learning environment

  • Completing pupil records with regular feedback to senior colleagues

  • Flexible to cover other classes and act up where necessary

  • Using your experience to lead enrichment groups

  • Be involved and active with all activities we as a school may promote

  • Direct junior staff

THE CANDIDATE

  • Experience in a school or similar setting

  • Experience working with children/ young people with SEN / SEMH needs

  • Educated with GCSE Maths and English

  • Level 3 qualification with desire to complete Level 4 (or relevant experience)

  • HLTA qualification OR willing to achieve within 2 years through our CPD programme

  • Car driver with access to own vehicle
