About the role

We are seeking an individual to work with children in our Emerald Hub; a purpose-built specialist resource base for children with a primary need of Communication and Interaction. To work under the direction and within an agreed system of supervision from a qualified teacher. To complement the teachers’ delivery of the National Curriculum and contribute to the development of other support staff, pupils and school policies and strategies. To undertake specified timetabled teaching duties as agreed with the Headteacher. To work collaboratively with teaching staff and assist teachers in the whole planning cycle and the management/preparation of resources. Also to supervise whole classes occasionally during the short-term absence of teachers including PPA. To provide support for pupils, the teacher and the school in order to raise standards of achievement for all pupils by utilising advanced levels of knowledge and skills when assisting with planning, monitoring, assessing and managing classes, and to encourage pupils to become independent learners, to provide support for their welfare, and to support the inclusion of pupils in all aspects of school life, both in the Emerald Hub and across the mainstream school.

What we are looking for

  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English or equivalent level of competency.
  • Have HLTA status or equivalent qualification/experience.
  • An individual experienced in dealing with conflicting demands.
  • The ability to plan activities.
  • Experience of working with children with SEN, particularly C&L needs.
  • Someone who has the ability to carry our appropriate physical interventions where necessary to safeguard themselves and others (after training).
  • Good organisation and effective time management skills.
  • A motivated individual who is enthusiastic, with a can do attitude.
  • Honesty and Integrity.
  • Team working skills and someone who would be a positive role model to our pupils.
  • Willingness to work with parent/carers and pupils, dealing with issues patiently and sensitively.
  • Ability to work as part of a team to implement and share new ideas.
