What skills and experience we're looking for
Newlyn School are looking for a warm and positive Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our team, who has a calm and nurturing yet aspirational mindset. We are looking for a dedicated and skilled practitioner to work alongside teaching colleagues to deliver high-quality teaching and learning experiences for whole classes and small groups, ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive.
A successful candidate will be able to lead whole-class learning sessions and small group interventions under the guidance of teachers, collaborate with teaching staff to plan and deliver engaging, inclusive lessons, support the development of personalised learning opportunities for all pupils, including those with additional needs and contribute to assessment and feedback to inform pupil progress. At Newlyn School we are proud to promote a calm, nurturing, and aspirational learning environment and the desired applicant will be supported to engage fully in school life, including Forest School, Beach School, clubs, and wrap-around care (where possible).
The appointed candidate will be flexible and willing to engage with all team members and work across all learning phases, having the hearts of our wonderful learners at the centre of everything we do. Experience in supporting young people with additional needs is desirable, but it is important to have a willingness to learn and grow professionally. At Newlyn School, we place high value on staff development. We offer a robust training programme designed to enrich your learning and develop expertise in the following areas:
-Teaching and learning strategies
-Therapeutic approaches
-Pedagogical practice
You will have access to ongoing CPD opportunities that empower you to grow professionally and make a real impact to the lives of the children at Newlyn School.
The perfect candidate will have a desire to champion all children ensuring they can always be the best they can be. We are looking for someone with a positive attitude who has creativity in their ability; to be able to design learning opportunities, making them accessible to all children and showing adaptability, dynamically moulding our provision to meet the personalised needs for all children.
Our children love experiencing our onsite Forest School, our extensive clubs offer as well as wrap around care. Somebody with the energy to throw themselves into all of school life is important, seeing the strengths in community and collaboration. Our curriculum is enriched with exceptional opportunities for children—and we are looking for all staff members to be an active part of these experiences. At Newlyn School we offer:
Music: Weekly specialist musical enrichment for all children, including a school band and collaborations with a local secondary school’s music label, inspiring the next generation of songwriters and musicians.
Sport: Our High Performance Squad offers talented pupils the chance to challenge their skills in exciting activities such as street skills (skateboarding and scootering), Pickleball, Surfing, Golf, and even coaching from Cornish Pirates rugby players.
Art: With strong community links and partnerships with Newlyn Art Gallery, every child can explore artistry and creativity, developing skills and confidence.
Outdoor Learning: Opportunities include Forest School, Beach School, Bikeability, and much more—helping children grow academically and holistically.
Newlyn School is driven to give opportunities to all children to allow them to be the best they can be. We have a strong vision for children attaining well, meeting above national average scores for SATS in Year 6, whilst growing into well rounded children who are ready to leave Newlyn School with confidence, ambition and a love of learning with a high knowledge of self-identity and pride of the community they live in. We are incredibly proud of our nurturing and inclusive school environment, and we welcome a new member to join our growing team. Please seek a personalised tour to see the school with your own eyes!
