Do you want to work in a school where the behaviour and attitudes of students is outstanding, a school which is driven by strong values, a caring ethos and a commitment to educational excellence, and where each and every student knows the gift of life in all its fullness? Furthermore, a school where extra-curricular success is amongst the highest in the country and student outcomes are well above national average.

St. Aidan’s CE High School is seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our team as a Reading Intervention Specialist. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in supporting students to develop their literacy skills and achieve their full potential. Working under the overall direction of the Headteacher and day-to-day leadership of the SENDCo, the postholder will contribute to raising standards of reading across the school.

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, delivering and monitoring targeted reading intervention sessions for students, working both one-to-one and with small groups. These sessions will focus on developing phonics, fluency and comprehension skills, and will be carefully tailored to meet individual needs. You will assess students’ progress through screening and ongoing evaluation, using this information to inform future planning and ensure the best possible outcomes

You will play a key role in maintaining accurate records of student progress and communicating effectively with teaching staff, families and other professionals. Building strong relationships with students and supporting their confidence and engagement in learning will be central to the role. You will also contribute to a safe, supportive and inclusive environment, ensuring that safeguarding and student wellbeing remain a priority at all times.

In addition, you will work collaboratively as part of a wider team, including leading and supporting non-teaching staff where appropriate. The role requires someone who understands the importance of teamwork, information sharing and multi-agency working, and who is able to contribute positively to the school’s ethos and community.

We are looking for a motivated individual with a strong understanding of reading strategies and interventions, excellent communication skills and a genuine passion for supporting young people. The ideal candidate will be organised, adaptable and committed to continuous professional development.

Completed applications should be submitted via My New Term by 9am on Thursday, 25th June 2026.

Interviews will be held on Thursday, 2nd July 2026.
