Higher Level Teaching Assistant (SEMH) job summary

We are a two form entry, semi rural school, situated in the beautiful Hampshire country side and are a sponsored academy and part of The Perins Multi Academy Trust. ​Our Resourced Provision for children with social, emotional and mental health needs in due to open in January 2025 and the successful candidate will be responsible for running the service.

As HLTA you will be involved in delivering teaching to children as well as developing other staff and building their confidence to support children with SEMH needs. You will have a good understanding of social, emotional, and mental health issues affecting young people, along with knowledge of relevant support strategies and interventions. You will also have experience of working with children or young people in a pastoral or support role.

Key Responsibilities:

Run the Resourced Provision at Sun Hill Junior School.

Work alongside the SENCO, safeguarding team and teaching staff to co-ordinate support for children with SEMH needs.

Deliver teaching to children with SEMH needs, and develop confidence in other staff in meeting these children’s needs in the classroom.

Keep up to date knowledge of local services supporting children with SEMH challenges and assist in referral of children to support services.

Support the delivery of training and resources on SEMH for staff.

Support early identification of children with SEMH challenges.

Act as a go to person for a designated group of children with SEMH needs.

Support children with SEMH needs in developing resilience and self esteem, establishing therapeutic relationships.

Assist in monitoring and record keeping and the creation of support plans for children with SEMH needs.

Engage positively with parents by providing support and advice to families.

Represent SHJS at Panel meetings with the local authority.

Act as a link between the school and outside agencies and specialist services for SEMH.

Monitor impact of interventions, reporting back to SENCO.

Accompany students with SEMH needs on trips as required.

Help support in the administration of assessments and tests.
