Higher Level Teaching Assistant job summary

We are a large, friendly, supportive team looking for two well organised, proactive, caring and flexible Higher Level Teaching Assistants to fully support the SENCO, playing an active part in the faculty; helping support students in our classrooms and supervising the work of support staff colleagues.

The roles will all involve helping students develop self confidence and resilience, to develop a positive mindset and a greater capacity for learning. You will help the students to build friendships and to become integrated into our school community.

The roles will include:

  • Supporting students in class by abridging the learning, providing support strategies and helping students to develop skills to overcome barriers in learning
  • Providing students with support for their core skills such as numeracy and literacy (either in small groups or 1:1)
  • Monitoring and evaluating impact of support strategies and making adjustments as necessary
  • Supporting students by ensuring they are referred for the appropriate interventions and external professional advice
  • Line managing a small group within the SEN team
  • Responsibility for a specific area of the faculty’s work
