Higher Level Teaching Assistant job summary

The children, staff and Trust of St Laurence Catholic Primary are looking for an excellent Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our team. Experience of supporting teaching and learning in EYFS and Key Stage 1 is essential, and Key Stage 2 experience is preferable. You will be committed to making learning accessible, irresistible, inclusive and effective for the children in our school.

As HLTA you will be qualified to and expected to deliver lessons in the absence of the teacher; covering PPA time and sickness in line with requirements of your job description and, on some days, cover lunch and/or break duty. We may also request you take on wider responsibilities within the school.

You will need to:
- Independently plan and teach groups of learners
- Run intervention sessions
- Teach phonics and speech and language catch-up programmes, knowledge of the Little Wandle phonics scheme is advantageous, but not essential
- Have high expectations of pupil outcomes and progress
- Encourage excellent behaviour and act as a role model for our pupils
- Develop good relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues
- Be flexible, collaborative and supportive by helping colleagues
- Have HLTA qualifications, or willingness to undertake them
- Be educated to GCSE or equivalent level, including at least a Grade 4 (previously Grade C) in English and Maths.
