Higher Level Teaching Assistant job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our team at Wayfield Primary School, where you will play a pivotal role in supporting outstanding teaching and learning across the school.
As a key member of our staff team, you will help pupils develop as confident, independent learners by keeping them focused, engaged, and eager to succeed. Your role will include explaining tasks and concepts clearly, supporting a wide range of classroom and whole‑school activities, and delivering high-quality learning experiences. You will work with individual pupils and small groups to provide targeted support, contribute to planning, and assist in maintaining purposeful and well-managed learning environments.
You will complement and enhance the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities. This may include planning, preparing, and delivering lessons, monitoring and assessing pupil progress, maintaining accurate records, and reporting on children’s development. You will also lead the class when required, ensuring continuity of learning and upholding high expectations.
Collaboration with teachers and specialist staff will be central to your role, particularly when developing and implementing individualised support plans for pupils with special educational needs. Above all, you will contribute to creating a warm, inclusive environment where every child is valued, supported, and able to thrive.
About YouYou will be deeply committed to education and to helping children achieve their very best. Enthusiastic, organised, and self‑motivated, you will bring energy, creativity, and professionalism to all aspects of your work.
You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong, appropriate relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues. High standards of numeracy and literacy are essential, as is a passion for making learning engaging and accessible for all children. You will also be adaptable, able to respond to the varied needs of pupils across the primary age range.
Confidentiality and professionalism are key to this role, as is a commitment to your own development. Ideally, you will hold an NVQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, HLTA status, or equivalent, or be willing to work towards this.
