What skills and experience we're looking for
As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the educational and personal development of pupils with severe learning difficulties and complex medical needs. Working closely with teachers and other professionals, you will plan, deliver, and assess learning activities for individuals and groups, following an agreed timetable for part of the week. You will also provide leadership and guidance to other teaching assistants.
Key responsibilities include:
- Planning, delivering, and assessing lessons for pupils according to an agreed timetable.
- Providing classroom support to enhance learning and promote independence.
- Leading intervention sessions and supporting personalised learning plans.
- Offering mentoring and pastoral care to pupils.
- Assisting with the physical care of pupils, including moving and handling.
- Supporting pupils with personal care needs when required.
- Collaborating with teachers, therapists, and medical staff to meet pupils’ needs. Due to the complex physical needs of our students, experience or willingness to assist with moving, handling, and personal care is essential.
We are looking for candidates who:
- Hold a relevant Level 3 qualification and are working towards or hold HLTA status.
- Have experience supporting pupils with special educational needs and complex medical needs.
- Possess excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Demonstrate high expectations for learning and behaviour.

Education Impact Academy Trust is a MAT incorporating Wilson Stuart School, Queensbury School and Mayfield School. Wilson Stuart School is an Ofsted designated outstanding all age (2 – 25 years) Special School which provides very high-quality education for 257 pupils and young people who have physical disabilities, and/or complex medical conditions. Queensbury School provides for 245 students who have MLD (Moderate Learning Difficulties), ASC (Autistic Spectrum Condition), SLD (Severe Learning Difficulties) and SEMH (Social Emotional and Mental Health). Mayfield School educates children and young people, who have a range of learning difficulties, between the ages of 3 and 19 and have approximately 300 students on roll.
