Are you an enthusiastic and determined History teacher with a passion for their subject? Are you excited about the opportunity to work with our committed and enthusiastic Key Stage 3 students within the humanities curriculum? Do you have the dedication, commitment, and openness to strategies to raise attainment at Key Stage 4 and 5? Then Ashby School is the place for you!

The History department is part of a thriving Humanities faculty that prides itself on outstanding teaching and care for students. The vision of the department is to encourage students to think critically about the world around them. To examine how the past shapes our modern world today and explore how their actions will affect the future.

The four specialist teachers in the History department work closely together to ensure the History curriculum achieves this vision and is always inspirational, challenging and accessible for all students. We are looking for a teacher who shares this vision and wants History to be at the very heart of Ashby School.

History is a popular subject with over 200 students studying for their GCSE in years 10 and 11. The students study the AQA specification at GCSE level, including units on Russia, 1894–1945: Tsardom and communism, Conflict and tension: The First World War, 1894–1918, Britain: Health and the people: c1000 to the present day and Elizabethan England, c1568–1603.

Currently we have over 80 students studying A Level History in years 12 and 13. At A Level the students study the AQA specification which combines two examined units (Units 1K and 2B) and a Non-Examined Assessment on modern British History. Outcomes at A Level are strong with a significant proportion of the cohort choosing to study the subject at the University.

At Key Stage 3, we deliver the subject as part of the Humanities department with discrete History topics that are designed to provide a broad and balanced experience of the subject. History is part of our Humanities faculty and our History teachers work alongside specialists in History, RE, Psychology & Business. To this end, candidates must be willing to teach outside of their specialism at Key Stage 3. Our Humanities faculty is housed in a suite of rooms equipped with projectors and with access to ICT facilities. The faculty also has admin support and dedicated work areas.
