HLTA job summary

Catcliffe Primary School is looking for a motivated and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our school community. (CPSHL3)

This role offers a varied mix of responsibilities, from leading whole-class teaching to supporting small group and individual learners, with a particular focus on helping all pupils achieve their full potential. Key responsibilities will include: Providing cover lessons and delivering whole-class teaching when needed (e.g. PPA cover or short-term teacher absence).

Working collaboratively with class teachers to plan, prepare and deliver differentiated learning activities.

Supporting pupils’ academic, social, emotional, and behavioural development, individually or in groups.

Helping pupils with additional needs (SEND) to access the curriculum effectively.

Monitoring and assessing pupil progress, giving feedback to teachers and contributing to reporting.

Managing learning resources, preparing classrooms, and ensuring learning environments are well set up.

Sometimes supervising other support staff or TAs, guiding less experienced colleagues.

Participating in school-wide activities, meetings, and contributing to ongoing professional development.

Essential skills and qualities: HLTA status or equivalent qualities:

HLTA status or equivalent qualification/experience.

Strong understanding of the primary curriculum and experience across key stage(s).

Excellent classroom management and behaviour management skills.

Ability to adapt learning for individual needs; experience with SEND is desirable.

Good organisational, communication and teamwork skills.

A flexible and positive attitude, willing to pitch in where needed.
