The Role

We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and skilled Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our dedicated team. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with learners who require a highly personalised, therapeutic, and nurturing approach to education.

You will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning, leading small group and 1:1 sessions, and helping learners re-engage with education in a way that feels safe, achievable, and empowering.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead learning activities for individuals and small groups under the guidance of the teacher

  • Deliver targeted interventions to support academic progress and emotional wellbeing

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with learners who may have experienced barriers to education

  • Support the implementation of personalised learning plans

  • Promote a calm, respectful, and nurturing learning environment

  • Monitor, assess, and record learner progress

  • Support behaviour through restorative and trauma-informed approaches

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, families, and external professionals

  • Contribute to the wider life of the provision and its community ethos

What We’re Looking For
  • HLTA qualification or equivalent experience

  • Experience working with young people in alternative provision, SEND, SEMH, or similar settings

  • A patient, empathetic, and non-judgemental approach

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Confidence in leading learning independently

  • Understanding of trauma-informed and restorative practices

  • A genuine belief that every learner can succeed with the right support
