HR Officer job summary

Vacancy for HR Officer at Somersham Primary School

Salary: Meridian Trust Grade 6, Point 7 £9,429

Hours: 15 hours per week (2 days, 08:00-16:00). 40 weeks per year (term time plus 4 days)

This is a fixed term contract until April 2027

We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and organised HR Officer join our team at Somersham Primary School. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and managing all HR related functions, documents, and processes. You will be the first point of contact for day-to-day HR queries, offering clear and consistent advice and wellbeing support.

The Opportunity

  • A great chance to work with a strong, fun, and enthusiastic team
  • Process payroll services, contracts, new starters, variations, and leavers in liaison with the Trust’s payroll provider
  • Maintain and manage sickness and staff absence reporting by effective monitoring and recording. Breaches or concerns should be raised with the Headteacher and the HR HUB Senior HR Advisor on a regular basis.
  • Organise and maintain all required safeguarding checks, paperwork and procedures for staff and volunteers, and risk assessments where needed
  • Complete and submit the annual workforce census, ensuring accurate recording of staff and their roles, teacher qualifications, staff ethnicity and all sickness absences.

The ideal candidate

  • Experience of working in a school environment is desirable
  • Strong and demonstrable administration skills
  • Positive and enthusiastic approach
  • Good educational background with GCSE or equivalent in the English Language
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of working with IT particularly Office suite (Excel, Word & Outlook)
