Humanities Teacher job summary

The Governors and Principal are seeking an exceptional teacher of Humanities. The ability to teach either History, RE or Geography is welcomed, with the possibility of Subject Lead of Geography for the right candidate; we are flexible depending on the applicant's skills. This is an opportunity for a full time position, for a September 2022 start. We are looking for strong academic credentials but also experience of working in a school committed to our values and ideals, where the co-curricular offer is as vital as the rigour of the taught curriculum. The role will be an outstanding educator with the ability and drive to offer the highest quality of teaching and learning. As an all through school there may be opportunities to teach across all phases, for the right candidate, but this is primarily a Secondary post. CFS follows national pay scales; this role would be equally suitable for a newly qualified or more experienced teacher. The Upper Pay Scale would be considered for the right candidate and on the agreement of a whole school responsibility in addition to the role outlined below. Our highly qualified and successful Humanities department consists of a six strong team with five dedicated classrooms and strong leadership from the Head of Humanities and Subject leaders for both RE and Geography. Our results have been increasing year on year with last year’s 4+ results well above national average. Pupils are entered for AQA History, Geography and RS at GCSE.

Further information about the job

All convictions, cautions and bind-overs, including those regarded as ‘spent’ must be declared when applying. The applicant may post such a declaration in an envelope marked ‘Private & confidential for the Principal’. The successful applicant must obtain List 99 clearance and DBS clearance at enhanced level.

CFS is now entering its second decade and is fully established in our state-of-the-art facilities on the Carmelite Convent Site on the Hunston Road in the south of Chichester. Our PAN is 60 in Primary, and 120 in Secondary; in almost all year groups we are oversubscribed with waiting lists. Due to demand, we have a bulge intake of Year 7 who started in September 2023, with 150 pupils currently on roll.

The School joined Sussex Learning Trust last September – a move that we personally initiated through the desire to collaborate with a like-minded family of schools. The Trust is currently small and based in Haywards Heath; CFS are well placed to launch a new Chichester Hub of the Trust, which is really exciting.

As a Free School, we are the same as any other academy; we are both held and hold ourselves to the same exacting and rigorous standards as all state-funded schools. We follow the national curriculum, and are proud of our ambitious, inclusive and varied curriculum offer. Our pupils engage with SATs and GCSE assessments. Since 2013, CFS has achieved two ‘Good’ Ofsted Inspections. As a school we are now striving for excellence in all areas, and to achieve above average outcomes in both phases.

CFS is open to pupils of all abilities. We do not have a catchment area, thus ensuring the School is fair and inclusive. We take part in the West Sussex County Council (WSCC) admissions process. As a school we benefit from longer holidays, specifically at October half term, Christmas and during the summer.
