Inclusion Lead job summary

We are seeking to appoint an experienced Inclusion Lead, who will lead on ensuring excellent standards of provision are in place for pupils with SEND across Advantage Schools, whilst acting as SENDCo at our oversubscribed school, Bedford Free School, located in Bedford, from April 2024.

This is a truly career-defining opportunity to make a real difference to pupils, through your leadership of SEND within a highly aspirational trust and an incredible school with a national reputation for excellence. You will primarily work with the established SEND team at Bedford Free School to ensure it continues to be an excellent place for pupils, particularly those with SEND, to learn and achieve success.  You will also be an integral part of the trust education team, sharing your expertise to influence and lead teaching and learning across our schools, and working closely with other trust SENDCos to facilitate collaboration.

This is a career-defining opportunity to join Advantage Schools and be part of our story as we grow.  Working together with you, we will provide transformational experiences for thousands of pupils, develop our staff to be the very best they can be, and influence the wider system by demonstrating first-hand what is achievable.

Overall Responsibilities:

To work closely and collaboratively with SENDCos across the trust, ensuring the trust vision for SEND is enacted in our schools

To work with the leadership team and SEND governor to determine the strategic development of SEND provision at Bedford Free School aligned to the Advantage Schools approach

To have day-to-day responsibility for the operation of the SEND portfolio of documents and the co-ordination of specific provision made to support individual students with SEND, including those who have EHCPs

To provide professional guidance to colleagues and to work effectively with parents, and other agencies to ensure that students with SEND receive appropriate support and high quality teaching at Advantage Schools

To have overall responsibility for the provision and progress of students with SEND at Bedford Free School

To work as part of the education team to ensure the professional development of teaching and education support staff enables them to effectively support all pupils, particularly those with barriers to learning, including learning difficulties and/or SEND

Our values are aspiration, honesty and respect and our vision is to create a family of exceptional schools, within which students are empowered and supported to achieve extraordinary outcomes.  We currently run four schools in Bedfordshire – Bedford Free School (secondary, Ofsted outstanding), Houstone School (secondary, not yet inspected), Elstow School (primary, Ofsted good) and Queen’s Park Academy (primary, Ofsted good) – with a fifth school (primary) joining us imminently.  Our pupils will leave our schools prepared for a fulfilling life, including the opportunity to go to a great university and pursue the career of their choice. To achieve this, our network of schools teach an academic, knowledge-rich curriculum enhanced by an entitlement to enrichment for all.

We achieve our goals through the recruitment and retention of the best colleagues and school leaders, developing talent through sector-leading professional learning.  We foster collaborative work, both across our trust and our extensive network of professional contacts, to ensure our staff can learn from and contribute significantly to the wider educational system.

We believe great staff make a great school, so we look after our colleagues well. We value hard work, but we do all we can to identify and eliminate unnecessary workload that could result in burnout.

                                                          THE PASTORAL AND SEND TEAMS

You will work with the inclusion team so that we can deliver on our promise to local families – that high expectations, superb behaviour and great teaching are the hallmarks of this school. You will build on our strong systems, processes, and standards to improve them further, bringing a capable and committed staff team with you. You will be fully supported by the excellent team at Bedford Free School and our wider network of executive and school leaders across the trust.

We will also expect you to lead strategically across the growing trust of five schools, working with school leaders and SENDCos to maximise the experience and outcomes of our pupils with SEND. We want to be a beacon for the system, where pupils with SEND achieve at least as well as their peers, including for outcomes, and expectations are unashamedly high.

Career development is a priority. We are outward facing, with partnerships across the country: our staff contribute to the delivery of National Professional Qualifications, the Early Career Framework and, as a lead school, the Behaviour Hub programme.   You will be joining us at an exciting time - our multi-academy trust is expanding which, in addition to creating exciting opportunities for our staff in the future, has further expanded our capacity to deliver the high-quality induction and ongoing professional development which will support you in your role.

We strongly encourage prospective candidates to come and visit our schools, to speak to staff and pupils, please contact Vicky Lockey should you wish to arrange a visit.

For a   confidential discussion about the position, contact Vicky Lockey, Executive Assistant on 0330 0531680 or email vlockey@advantageschools.co.uk
