What skills and experience we're looking for
Qualifications · Qualified Teacher Status. · Considerable experience of working with Special Educational Needs or as a SENCO. · Evidence of continuing professional development related to the post · National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination or evidence of pursuing a place on this course
Experience · Taught in at least two Key Stages, including successful support of children with a range of SEND and those eligible for pupil premium funding. · Leading workshops and meetings for staff and parents. · Experience of working with parents to ensure best possible outcomes for pupils. · Experience of monitoring teaching, learning and assessment that meets the needs of pupils with SEND and those eligible for pupil premium funding. · Experience of writing ITPS, one-page profiles and provision maps. · Experience of managing and supporting challenging behaviour · Experience of being an Inclusion/SEN/Pupil Premium Leader. · Experience of being a DSL.
Knowledge,
Skills and
Understanding · A thorough knowledge and understanding of the SEND Code of Practice. · Knowledge of the National Curriculum and EYFS curriculum. · An understanding of the challenges facing primary education and SEND provision. · Ability to articulate and demonstrate the characteristics of effective planning, learning, teaching and assessment strategies used to support pupils with SEND and those eligible for pupil premium funding. · Knowledge of how ICT can be used to support children with SEND. · Knowledge of how to interpret and track pupil progress to accelerate progress and raise pupil attainment. · Knowledge of the processes when applying for or review EHCP or SSSPs
Leadership · Ability to provide a clear vision and direction for the development of inclusive practice. · Commitment to working with the Headteacher and members of the Senior Leadership Team in delivering whole-school strategies. · Commitment to promoting an environment where all children will maximise and achieve their potential. · Ability to liaise with all stakeholders, including education and medical professionals, governors and parents. · Experience leading another subject

What the school offers its staff
We are seeking to appoint an Inclusion Lead /SENCO to join our successful, warm, welcoming and inclusive school. This position does not have a class responsibility, but you will be expected to lead on another area of the curriculum, for example phonics and early reading. There is an expectation that eventually you will be required to cover PPA for one morning a week.
The Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator role is to provide vision, leadership and management for all students who are identified having SEND, holding responsibility for pupils’ outcomes and achievements. The post holder will also share in the responsibility for leadership as a member of the Leadership Team. Ideally, they will be DSL trained, but we can provide this if necessary.
The SENDCo will be responsible for enabling all students with SEND to successfully access the curriculum and be successful, working with a team of Teachers, Teaching Assistants and 1-1 Support Assistants to enable pupils to be the best that they can be. They will lead on supporting staff to adapt lessons to support these children.
The SENDCo will be a successful and experienced teacher who is able to enthuse, motivate and inspire children, generating a love for learning. Ideally, the successful candidate will have demonstrated the potential for excellent leadership, management and communication skills in their present role. The successful candidate will be a creative thinker with an ability and determination to secure high-quality outcomes.
You will be responsible for:
- Monitoring and supporting the overall academic progress and personal development of students with learning difficulties and disabilities.
- Leading, developing, and enhancing the practice of others in relation to pupils with learning difficulties and disabilities to ensure high standards of teaching are consistent and accessible for all learners.
- A hands-on approach to all SEND pupils across school
- Work closely with parents, external agencies, and the wider community to ensure that our SEN students receive the appropriate support they need.
- Support the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher in their vision for the school
You will be a qualified teacher with excellent subject knowledge and strong teaching skills, someone who is able to build positive relationships with staff and all learners and be committed to raising the attainment of your students.
Ideally, you will have The National Award for SEN and an understanding of current SEND legislation and guidance.
