Inclusive Learning Partner ( Apprenticeship) job summary

Traditionally in Primary schools, support staff have either been Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) or Teaching Assistants (TAs). At Inspiring Primaries Academy Trust, we are breaking new ground to recognise the changed environment that our support staff now work in. The national increase in children with a wide range of additional needs demands that we change how we work. With that in mind, we have created this training opportunity for an Inclusive Learning Partner apprenticeship.

We have partnered with BeReady, one of the largest delivery partners for apprenticeships in the UK, to provide a fabulous programme that spans two academic years. The core element is a 15 month in-school curriculum which focuses on the professional knowledge, skills and behaviours required of an ILP. These include:

  • An overview of each area of SEND including the process from identification of needs through to EHCP and outline of school level support

  • How to contribute to the overall ethos and aims of the organisation and promote diversity, inclusion, equality, and acceptance of all learners, including different models of inclusion, concrete examples of differentiation and personalisation in practice

  • Understanding how pupils learn and develop including the need to provide feedback to support and facilitate an appropriate level of independence

  • Recognise the importance of using appropriate technology to support learning

  • Understanding the stages of development for children and young people. Consider the impact of transition on learners and strategies to support them as well as the vulnerability of young people with SEND

  • Supporting the development of a stimulating and safe learning environment by developing knowledge of appropriate learning resources and how to adapt communication strategies to suit the audience and context

John Wycliffe Primary School is a community school at the heart of Lutterworth, a growing market town in rural Leicestershire. As the town is growing, so is our school and over the last few years we have had over £1.1million invested in the site to provide more pupil places and specialist SEN support for pupils from across Leicestershire. Our school and Trust has a long tradition of nurture, placing the wellbeing of our children at the heart of all we do. When it comes to teaching and learning, we have a very simple ethos: Be Brilliant!

Our last Ofsted, in 2023, identified the school as Good in all areas, commenting

“Pupils are happy to attend John Wycliffe Primary School. It is an inclusive school. Pupils readily work and play together. The school values encourage all pupils to aspire to ‘be brilliant’. Teachers have high expectations for what pupils can achieve. Pupils try hard in lessons. They take pride in their achievements. Pupils enjoy the rewards they get when they do well. In lessons, pupils behave well. Disruptions to learning are very rare. Classrooms and corridors are calm. “

We are looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking Inclusive Learning Partner Apprentice to join our highly committed team in our specialist provsion . The successful applicant will ideally have a love of children and a commitment to creative chid centred learning as well as being:

  • Organised and able to set clear priorities in managing their workload

  • Able to communicate clearly and positively with staff, parents and pupils, both in person and in written communications

  • Able to work calmly under pressure

  • Able to show a 'can-do' attitude and seek solutions to problems

  • Able to work flexibly and creatively

  • Happy, co-operative and able to work on own initiative

  • A strong team player

  • A person who demonstrates excellent initiative

Added benefits;

  • Staff Wellbeing support

  • Term time working (plus 5.6 weeks paid holiday)

  • Excellent pension contribution from employer

  • Continued professional development opportunities

This post is a fixed term contract for the duration of the training, approx. 15-18 months, for 34 hours per week (30 to be spent at school, 4 for out of school study) paid at £7.55 per hour - 39 weeks per year ( 38 weeks term time + 30 hours for school directed training and inset days)
