IT Technician job summary

Role Summary

Working as part of the IT Team, you will ensure an effective and efficient operation of each school/college’s network, IT equipment and systems. 

You will be responsible for handling a diverse range of tasks including:

  • completing routine maintenance of IT systems

  • cleaning and monitoring computer equipment

  • ensuring that the school and Trust remain compliant with software licensing and adhere to network security processes. 

With your strong organisational and communication skills, you will:

  • deliver world class IT support

  • provide first-line support to staff and students and advise on safe use of the internet

  • replace IT equipment 

  • ensure that the schools and Trust remain compliant

Key areas of responsibility - What will you be doing

Follow Up

  • Monitor and track progress on various initiatives and tasks to ensure that they are completed as planned.

  • Proactively follow up with colleagues to address potential issues and ensure accountability for assigned responsibilities.

  • Regularly assist with audits, stock takes and quality checks of the Trust IT hardware and software.

  • Replace equipment as necessary or as per schedule.

  • Maintain hardware and software stocks.

Build Trust

  • Provide diagnostic and repair support; including working with outside agencies, delivering prompt and successful solutions.

  • Foster strong and positive relationships with team members and other Trust staff.

  • Demonstrate reliability, integrity, and professionalism in handling sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality.


Build Knowledge

  • Conduct research and stay updated on new developments in Information and Communications Technology.

  • Support the education and upskilling of our Athena teams to increase confidence in using IT systems.

  • Assess and prioritise tasks and projects based on their importance and urgency to meet deadlines and Athena goals.

  • Efficiently manage time and resources to ensure the completion of essential tasks while balancing competing demands.

  • Communicate clearly and concisely to convey information, instructions, and goals effectively to team members, staff and students.

  • Exhibit enthusiasm and motivation in daily activities to inspire and energise the team and create a positive work environment.

Qualifications

GCSE C or above (or equivalent) in Maths and English



Experience

Essential

Competent use of IT equipment and systems, and ability to troubleshoot issues

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills

Desirable

Experience working in IT support

Experience in a school/college or similar environment
