What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Key Stage 3 Teacher to join our team and take responsibility for a year group class as the Class Teacher. The successful candidate will lead small-group and 1:1 sessions, working closely with pupils who may require extra emotional and academic support to reintegrate into full-time classroom learning. You will play a crucial role in helping students build self-esteem, social skills, and resilience, fostering a positive attitude towards learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver tailored lessons in line with the nurture curriculum, adapting teaching strategies to meet the individual needs of students
  • Develop and implement personalised learning plans, with a strong focus on emotional wellbeing and academic progress
  • Work closely with the pastoral team, SENCo, and external agencies to ensure a holistic approach to each pupil’s education and care
  • Create a supportive, calm, and structured environment where pupils feel safe, valued, and able to express themselves

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Experience working with students with SEMH needs, preferably within a nurture setting or similar
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for helping students overcome barriers to learning

Grafham Grange School is a special school set in 42 acres of beautiful Surrey countryside in Grafham. Our school offers education and care for up to 52 students, referred from local authorities across the South of England from the age of 10 to 16 (Year 6 to Year 11).

All our students have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) as their primary identified need, though the majority of students have additional special educational needs such as autistic spectrum conditions; speech, language and communication difficulties; ADHD; opposition defiance; medical conditions and attachment disorders.
