Kitchen Assistant job summary

We are looking to recruit a friendly and dedicated team member to support our Kitchen Team in providing lunches to children in our friendly and nurturing school and nursery setting. Working with and under the guidance of our Head Cook and our kitchen team, the Kitchen Assistant will be responsible for the following areas of work:
  • Preparing, cooking, presenting and serving school meals to the highest standards in line with food safety regulations and government guidelines.
  • Serving and clearing the food areas to exceptionally high standards.
  • Washing up plates, utensils and equipment during and after service.
  • Actively involved in the cleaning of the catering equipment on a daily and weekly basis as directed by the Head Cook in accordance with the school kitchen’s cleaning rotas.
  • Be confident and proactive in dealing with any concerns as they arise and taking corrective action if/when necessary.
  • Actively encourage the children to enjoy a well-balanced healthy diet and make sensible choices.
  • Be confident in the use of our equipment the kitchen, you will receive full training before use.
  • Be willing to undertake online training courses / continuous professional development for example Food Hygiene, Allergen Training, Safeguarding training, health and safety training within the first 6 weeks of your employment.

    A Food Hygiene L2 qualification is desirable but not essential as the successful candidate will be required to undertake this following appointment.

    Experience of working a professional kitchen and kitchen environment is desirable but not essential.

    Hours of work will be 22.5 hours per week starting at 9.30 am to 2.00 pm Monday to Friday term time only (with 3 cleaning days per year to be completed).

    The post is offered on a fixed term basis until the 31st July 2026 in the first instance.
