Join us on our journey to becoming a truly great school

At Hovingham, we believe that great teaching changes lives—and mathematics is a key driver of that success. We are building a school where every child develops confidence, fluency and a love of learning in maths, supported by consistent, high-quality teaching.

We are seeking an excellent classroom teacher and aspiring leader to join our team, with responsibility for leading a whole-school maths development project through a TLR3.

This role offers a unique opportunity to lead innovation, shape practice across the school and make a measurable impact in a core subject—an ideal next step for someone looking to strengthen their leadership profile.

About Us

Hovingham is a school where values are lived, not laminated.

Visitors often comment on the warmth, positivity and strong relationships that define our community. Our team is dedicated, reflective and relentlessly focused on improving outcomes for children—especially those who need us most.

We are on an ambitious journey to become a truly great school. We believe in:

  • High expectations, no barriers, everyone included
  • Belonging as the foundation for success
  • Perseverance—we do what it takes, for as long as it takes
  • Seeing potential, not labels

About the Role

This is a dual role combining excellent classroom teaching with a clearly defined TLR3 leadership project.

As a Class Teacher, you will:

  • Deliver consistently high-quality teaching that enables all pupils to succeed
  • Create a classroom culture of high expectations, inclusion and engagement
  • Use assessment intelligently to adapt teaching and secure strong outcomes
  • Contribute to our collaborative and reflective professional culture

As Maths Project Lead (TLR3), working alongside Assistant principal for maths you will:

  • Lead a whole-school project to implement and embed Oak National Academy maths resources as a coherent planning and teaching tool
  • Work in alignment with Maths Hub principles, ensuring teaching reflects evidence-informed approaches to mastery, coherence and sequencing
  • Support staff in adapting and using Oak resources effectively to improve consistency and reduce workload
  • Develop a clear model of high-quality maths teaching across the school
  • Monitor impact on teaching quality, pupil outcomes and staff confidence
  • Provide coaching, modelling and professional development for colleagues
  • Evaluate and refine implementation to ensure sustained impact

What Makes This Opportunity Unique

This role is more than a traditional subject leadership responsibility—it is a focused, strategic project with real whole-school impact.

You will:

  • Lead the introduction of a new planning and teaching approach
  • Develop expertise in curriculum design and implementation
  • Gain experience of leading change across a school
  • Build strong, demonstrable impact in a core subject on your CV

This is an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious teacher ready to take the next step towards subject or senior leadership.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is an excellent classroom practitioner with strong subject knowledge in maths
  • Has high expectations for all pupils
  • Is passionate about improving outcomes in mathematics
  • Has the drive and capability to lead a whole-school project
  • Can influence, support and inspire colleagues
  • Is reflective, proactive and solutions-focused
  • Works collaboratively and thrives as part of a team

Leadership experience is welcomed—but potential, mindset and ambition matter most.

A Brilliant Opportunity If You Are…

  • An experienced teacher ready for their first leadership responsibility
  • A current subject leader looking to deepen their strategic impact
  • An ambitious practitioner seeking to move into middle or senior leadership
  • Passionate about evidence-informed maths teaching and curriculum development

Why Join Hovingham?

Because here, you will:

  • Be part of a school where belonging drives success
  • Work within a values-led, ambitious and inclusive culture
  • Receive high-quality professional development and coaching
  • Be trusted to lead meaningful change
  • Make a genuine, lasting difference to children’s learning

We are proud to be part of OMAT Trust, a caring and collaborative partnership.
