Overall Purpose of the Role:
To provide high-quality teaching and learning experiences for pupils. The role involves fostering academic excellence, personal development and a love of learning in a secure, inclusive and stimulating environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Learning
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons that meet the requirements of the National Curriculum;
- Adapt learning to meet the needs of all pupils, including those with SEND and EAL;
- Use formative and summative assessment effectively to inform planning and track pupil progress;
- Maintain high expectations for behaviour, effort and achievement.
Curriculum and Assessment
- Implement the school’s curriculum policies and schemes of work, ensuring coverage of core and foundation subjects;
- Prepare pupils for statutory assessments, including SATs, with a focus on English, maths, and science;
- Use assessment data to identify gaps in learning and implement targeted interventions.
Pastoral and Safeguarding
- Promote the emotional wellbeing and resilience of pupils, supporting their personal development and readiness for secondary school;
- Follow safeguarding procedures and contribute to a safe and nurturing school environment;
- Liaise with parents, carers and external agencies to support pupil welfare and progress.
Professional Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, including phase leaders and subject coordinators, to contribute to whole-school improvement;
- Participate in staff meetings, CPD and performance management processes;
- Support trainee teachers and contribute to the development of teaching assistants;
- Maintain a well-organised, stimulating classroom environment that reflects pupils’ learning and achievements.
Additional Duties
- Lead or support extracurricular activities, school trips and enrichment opportunities;
- Contribute to the wider life of the school, including assemblies, school events and community engagement;
- Uphold the school’s values, ethos and policies, including behaviour, equality and health and safety.
