Lansdowne Primary Academy is part of the Gateway Learning Community [GLC] which is a partnership of one secondary academy and four primary academies located within Tilbury and Chadwell St Mary in the borough of Thurrock, to the east of London. We are a vibrant, innovative and highly successful organisation: the place of choice to work and learn. Across the 5 academies of the GLC, we celebrate differences and pledge that everyone enjoys an equality of opportunity and is not discriminated against in any way.

Lansdowne Primary Academy is seeking a dedicated and proactive Senior Learning Support Assistant to work in partnership with our teaching staff. In this pivotal role, you will not only support individual pupils and small groups to access the national curriculum, but you will also act as a leader within our support team—coaching other LSAs and leading training to ensure the highest standards of care and education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Targeted Interventions: Plan, deliver, and assess targeted work for intervention groups, adjusting activities based on pupil responses.
  • Leadership & Mentoring: Coach, mentor, and support the work of other LSAs and classroom volunteers, including leading LSA training sessions as required.
  • Inclusion & SEN Support: Assist with the development and implementation of IEPs and EHCPs, ensuring pupils with special educational needs have full access to lessons through tailored resources and explanations.
  • Academic Support: Partner with teachers to deliver literacy, numeracy, and ICT activities that build pupil competence and independence.
  • Pupil Wellbeing: Promote positive behaviour management in line with school policies, attend to personal, social, and medical needs (including minor first aid), and supervise specified break-time activities.
  • Collaboration: Participate in planning, monitoring, and recording pupil progress, providing clear feedback to teachers, pupils, and parents/carers.

What We Are Looking For

  • Qualifications: NVQ Level 2 in Learning Support/Early Years, NNEB, or equivalent qualification/experience. Completion of the DCSF induction programme is highly desirable.

  • Experience: Successful, proven experience working with children in a school or early years environment, with a strong grasp of child development and the school curriculum.

  • Skills: Excellent literacy, numeracy, and basic ICT skills.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to write basic reports and build rapport with pupils, families, and staff.
  • Outstanding organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.

  • Leadership Potential: The ability to guide, support, and mentor other adults in the classroom environment.

  • Core Values: A deep understanding of and commitment to Child Protection/Safeguarding, Health & Safety, Confidentiality, and Equal Opportunities.
