What skills and experience we're looking for

We currently have an exciting opportunity for Lead Caretaker to join our fantastic team at Pioneer House High School

This is a Grade 5, permanent post working 35 hours per week, all year round. The starting salary is £29,064 and the role is to start as soon as pre-employment checks are complete

We’re looking for:Significant experience working in a relevant discipline i.e. senior caretaking/site keeping experience in a school or similar environment . You will need knowledge of health and safety and hygiene procedures and precautions. As Lead Caretaker you will manage other estates staff including allocation and monitoring of work and performance appraisal and supervision of external contractors on site. be a responsible key holder and manage maintenance, security and facilities systems on site including alarm systems, CCTV and surveillance systems.

You will also be responsible for hands on operational deliver of site caretaking including maintaining the cleanliness and physical appearance/environment of the designated site – inside and out, including maintenance of specialist facilities and equipment following appropriate training, where applicable.

Main purpose of the job:You willSupport the Site Manager by taking responsibility for the management of the school site and associated facilities under an agreed system of supervision, taking responsibility for the management and development of specialist facilities services within the school.

  • To support the day to day management and evidencing the delivery of the schools planned preventative maintenance contract.

  • Ensure that the premises operate to a high standard of health and safety and that all relevant regulations are implemented and adhered to at all times.

  • To ensure that in-house testing/checks are undertaken and recorded in-line with Trust processes. This includes fire bells tests and the checking of fire extinguishers, emergency lighting and fire doors.

  • To ensure that general maintenance and repairs in the school, are completed swiftly, safely and in accordance with the expectation of senior staff, taking appropriate action to address any safety hazards/unsafe practices in and around the building.

  • To ensure that regular grounds maintenance and cleaning duties are undertaken, including collecting litter, emptying external waste bins, and ensuring safe access is maintained on the site in periods of severe weather conditions.

  • To support the day to day operation of the estates repairs and maintenance issues desk and associated system.

  • Full line management of estates and site staff including recruitment, probationary period management, performance management, absence management and staff development.

Pioneer House High School

Pioneer House High School is a special school located in Northern Moor which provides 100 day places for 11 to 19 year old pupils, with a unique focus in preparing pupils with significant additional needs, to become independent and productive adults. The school has a strong vocational emphasis and pupils will have the potential to progress on to supported or independent employment/internships/apprenticeships or college.

The school was opened in 2016 and moved to a new, purpose built, site in 2017 which hosts a range of facilities including a one-bedroom bungalow, poly-tunnel and horticultural area, a purpose built catering and hospitality kitchen and construction area. We have recently expanded our site developing the student run Strawberry Fox Café, and additional learning and social spaces.

Following our first Ofsted inspection in 2019, Pioneer House was graded Outstanding in all areas.
