What skills and experience we're looking for
Parkside Community School is seeking a Lead Design Technology Technician to provide support to teaching staff in the department. The main duties of the post will be the preparation of tools, equipment and materials for lessons and displays.
There is also a requirement to undertake a practical health and safety role for
the department.
Core Tasks:
- Prepare all equipment resources and materials required for classes studying in the area of technology at KS3 & KS4
- Preparation of teaching aids and visual displays for use in design technology
- Maintain all equipment as required and to ensure that all maintenance procedures are undertaken as specified by technical consultants and manufacturer’s instructions; and, where necessary, with appropriate authorisation, arrange repair of equipment
- Assist in practical lessons as requested by the class teacher, supporting students and their learning
- Set up for practical assessments and external practical examination procedures
- Be responsible for the safe storage and use of chemicals and other hazardous substances within the department in accordance with COSHH and health and safety policies
- Responsibility for maintaining records of resources and undertaking stock control procedures and procedures
- Responsibility for ordering of materials as directed, maintain budget spreadsheet and to obtain sundry items as necessary for demonstrations, student tasks and projects
- Keep up to date with new technology and developments, advising subject area staff as required and attending departmental meetings as required
- Liaise with the site and premises manager for any maintenance issues, including annual tests within the department
- Comply with the requirements of health and safety, other relevant legislation and school policies and procedures, and to comply with the school’s Equal Opportunities Policy
- Undertake any other reasonable duties within the overall function, commensurate with the grading and level of responsibility of the job
