What skills and experience we're looking for
Qualified Teacher with a strong background in working with pupils with special needs
Experience / training in working with pupils in either the primary or secondary phases
Successful experience of working with other specialisms and agencies
ASD specific qualifications
PROACT SCIPr-UK Instructor or equivalent
Qualifications in Therapeutic Interventions
Qualifications in Mental Health Issues
Understanding of ASD from a developmental perspective
Knowledge of play based approaches such as DIR-Floortime, P.L.A.Y., RDI
A knowledge of Therapeutic Thinking and its application in practice
An understanding of TEACCH
A knowledge of SCERTS and its application
Ability to manage a team and effect change throughout the school
Ability to line-manage a team using the Bluesky system or equivalent, advise and set targets, commission CPD and review strategically and developmentally
Ability to model teaching strategies in classrooms and work effectively alongside class teachers, assistants and other professionals
Ability to motivate and encourage pupils through effective building of relationships
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and plan jointly
Ability to work effectively with and to offer support to parents and families
Ability to work to deadlines
Ability to write concise, reflective and effective reports that can readily be shared within the school community, and also with parents and carers
Able to confidently and competently apply knowledge and skills acquired from training into a practical context, in and outside formal classroom settings
Be innovative and clear thinking
Commitment to undertake additional training relevant to the post
Commitment to undertaking a detailed induction programme
Firm understanding of the subject in relation to pupils with special needs
Good planning and organisational skills including recording and note-taking
Sound literacy and numeracy skills
