Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed teacher with a passion for History. The successful candidate will either be/or have the potential to become an outstanding teacher.
Roles specific to this post include:
- Liaise with the Curriculum Leader to ensure the delivery of an appropriate, comprehensive, high quality and cost effective curriculum programme which complements the strategic direction of the school.
- Role model outstanding classroom practice, which is reflected in sustained outcomes over time at both KS4 and KS5.
- Further strengthen A Level achievement, with a particular emphasis on curriculum development and the creation of schemes of learning.
- Oversee the professional development of staff in History, providing advice on appropriate Professional Learning opportunities.
- Actively monitor and respond to curriculum development and initiatives at national, regional and local levels.
- Be an integral part of the whole school Teaching and Learning Team, which involves:
- observing teaching, giving constructive feedback and monitoring this to ensure that it leads to improved standards in the classroom.
- supporting wider aspects of quality assurance, including book scrutiny, data analysis, student voice and panels.
- supporting the delivery of the whole school coaching programme, through resources such as StepLab.
- Opportunity to support the work of the Teaching School, with a focus on History curriculum development.
Responsibilities
- Support the Curriculum Leader in developing and reviewing the History curriculum and schemes of work at Key Stage 3 (KS3), Key Stage 4 (KS4) and Key Stage 5 (KS5).
- Prepare, deliver and evaluate schemes of work in accordance with the National Curriculum/exam specification requirements; with a particular focus on challenge, pace, high order questioning and thinking skills, as well as writing and speaking opportunities to facilitate students accessing the highest grades at KS3, KS4 and KS5.
- Support the Curriculum Leader in the development of quality assessments, with a focus on embedding disciplinary skills within all key stages, and the implementation of the marking and feedback policy.
- Lead on the quality assurance of departmental data, to ensure rigour and accuracy in grading at KS3, KS4 and KS5. Work with classroom teachers and TLR holders to ensure QLA is used as a driver to identify curriculum gaps and address misconceptions.
- Work with the Curriculum Leader to devise and implement a Department Development Plan and/or Raising Achievement Plan in order to identify barriers and possible strategies for raising standards at all key stages in line with the latest accountability measures.
- Provide leadership and guidance on the development of learning resources.
- Support the Curriculum Leader, deputising when and where appropriate.
- Be a key leader across the school in the development of teaching and learning, by showcasing the impact of evidence informed strategies.
- Work with and report to the Deputy Headteacher for Teaching and Learning to monitor, evaluate and review the quality of education across the school.
- Support colleagues through the Coaching programme, both on a 1-2-1 basis and in triads/groups, to develop pedagogy and practice in order to improve the quality of learning and teaching with the specific aim of securing outstanding teaching and student outcomes.
