Lead Practitioner job summary

The leading practitioner will lead on the improvement of teaching skills through modelling high-quality teaching, coaching and training other members of staff in their pathway.

The successful candidates will be specialising in one of our curriculum pathways detailed below:

  • - The Vega pathway leading on the pre-formal curriculum;

  • - The Orion pathway leading on the informal curriculum;

  • - The Polaris pathway leading to the semi-formal curriculum and communication across the school

Responsibilities

Working alongside the SLT:

  • - Exhibit exemplary teaching skills

  • - Lead the improvement of teaching skills in your school

  • - Carry out the professional responsibilities of a teacher

  • - They should also take a leadership role in developing, implementing and evaluating policies and practice, which might include:

  • - Supporting SLT in coaching, mentoring and inducting teachers, including trainees and early career teachers

  • - Be part of the Induction and Training of staff

  • - To hold or work towards a National Professional Qualification (NPQ)

  • - Sharing knowledge from research about best practice in teaching and learning to support with continuing professional development

  • - Assessing and evaluating impact, including through demonstration lessons and classroom observation

  • - Supporting with creating high-quality schemes of work to reduce workload

  • - Helping teachers who are experiencing performance difficulties

  • - Lead on pedagogy and curriculum in chosen pathway

  • - Lead on researching best practice and keeping up-to-date with the latest developments

  • - Where appropriate, take part in the appraisal and professional development of others

  • - Promote the safeguarding of all pupils in the school

We are part of the Astrum Multi Academy Trust with two school sites, which are within one mile of each other. Lower School is for pupils in Early Years Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 and Upper School for students in Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 and 16-19.

Pupils transfer from Gresham Drive to Barley Lane Campus at the end of Key Stage 2 and are supported to do this through a well-planned transition programme.
