We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate, dedicated and innovative Lead Practitioner of Scienceto join our Sciencefacultyat Thomas Knyvett College. We are looking for an inspirational teacher with the ability to create a nurturing learning environment; a commitment to ‘Bringing out the Best’ in every student; and a genuine passion for their subject.

Teaching and learning is at the heart of everything we do at Thomas Knyvett College. We prioritise planning time for teachers with 16% PPA compared with the 10% national average. Thomas Knyvett College is a place where you really do have the space to teach. We encourage colleagues to try new things, take risks and have fun in the classroom. Our teachers are encouraged to be themselves whilst reflecting on the latest developments in pedagogy and how they can be applied. Central to our ethos are the positive relationships and personalised approach which we take with all our students.

We are a very lively and supportive faculty of six subject-specialist teachers with a vast range of experience and expertise in the field of Science Education and two science technicians.

All members of the team work closely together and collaborate fully with our planning and in other areas to share best practice. The 8 labs are equipped with relevant specialist equipment and an interactive whiteboard. We make full use of science specific online platforms and Microsoft Teams to encourage independent learning both within and beyond the classroom.

We follow the AQA GCSE specification for both Combined Science,which presents Biology, Chemistry and Physics in separate teaching and learning unitsfor current Years 7- 10. Current Year 11 follow the Excel GCSE specification.
