Lead Teacher for the Specialist Resource Base job summary

“We put the success and happiness of our students at the heart of everything we do”.

North Walsham High School, part of the Enrich Learning Trust, is a small secondary school in Norfolk. We are a rapidly growing school that has a strong community of dedicated staff who live out our vision and put the success and happiness of our students at the heart of everything we do. This is underpinned by our core values of Trust, Resilience, Excellence and Kindness.

We are really proud to be opening a brand new Specialist Resource Base (SRB). Our SRB will form part of a county wide programme of SRB provision as part of Norfolk’s Local Offer to children, young people with special educational needs and their families. Our SRB will cater for students with a diagnosis of ASD and for students who do not have a formal diagnosis but have barriers to learners associated with the triad of communication, socialisation and flexibility of thinking. The vision is to support these students to access mainstream education.

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational and passionate Lead Teacher for the Specialist Resource Base. This is a really exciting opportunity to help open and lead the base and work alongside the Primary School SRB situated at Millfield Primary School.

The successful candidate will:

  • Lead the delivery of the school’s Specialist Resource Base (SRB)
  • Lead the strategic development of practice, performance, and quality within the SRB
  • Be passionate about inclusive education in line with the school's values and vision for SEND
  • Manage a staff team of teaching and support staff within the SRB, providing inspirational leadership which enables individuals to operate at their best and continually improve.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to teams, colleagues and partners ensuring a culture which promotes true partnership with parents, carers, and families.
  • Maintain the highest standards of teaching, learning, specialist support and safeguarding for the pupils within the SRB, enabling pupils to make accelerated progress and to meet their special educational needs.
  • Lead work on observations and panels supporting the LA admission process
  • Undertake the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead for the SRB and have clear understanding of safeguarding procedures and practices.
  • Make suitable plans for a child’s needs by interpreting both how they present as well as specific assessments and knowledge of their specific needs.
  • Encourage children to develop in all aspects of their learning, including both socially and emotionally, promoting the school’s vision and values

Professional development opportunities are plentiful and we are always working hard to be innovative around workload- we want you to have a balanced life and enjoy working with our children! We have really strong supportive policies on feedback, reporting, centralised planning and behaviour for learning (including centralised detentions) that allow you to focus on planning and teaching excellent lessons.

Alongside this we have a clear approach to teaching and learning which is supported by our Instructional Coaching programme. This is captured in the North Walsham Approach to Teaching.

For an informal discussion contact our Executive Headteacher Mr James Gosden (gosdenj@nwhs.uk). We encourage visits to the school prior to application.

Enrich Learning Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of its pupils and expects all those working at the Trust to share this commitment. All offers of employment are subject to an Enhanced DBS check, and where applicable, a prohibition from teaching check will be completed for all applicants.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (2013 and 2020).
