Cardinal Langley Roman Catholic High School is a mixed, voluntary-aided, Roman Catholic, comprehensive secondary school, situated in Middleton, North Manchester. There are 1,200 students on the school roll, including 140 students in the sixth form.
*
Founded in 1959, the school is named after Thomas Langley, Bishop of Durham, and later Cardinal. Trusteeship of the school is held by the Diocese.
*
Our school is highly respected in the local community and continues to expand due to its popularity, with a £14 million recent investment in facilities through the Building Schools for the Future Programme, whilst September 2016 marked the opening of our De La Salle Centre, providing new classrooms and a designated facility for our Year 7 students, including dining room, gardens and recreation area.
*
Our curriculum is designed to stretch and challenge students of all abilities and potential and there is a wealth of extra-curricular, clubs, trips and activities on offer to help children develop their interests and grow socially as well as academically.
*
There is a very strong spiritual culture and ethos here in school. Children are encouraged to help those less fortunate than themselves and get involved with the various social projects and fundraising activities for the charities that the school supports. The teachings of the Roman-Catholic Church are at the heart of our school and influence every aspect of the curriculum. We are proud of our Catholic character but also of our diversity and everyone is most welcome within our school community, regardless of faith.
*
A willingness to contribute to the extra-curricular life and Catholic ethos of our school is essential.
*
Staff welfare and development are also key aspects of our school community. We have an excellent support programme for NQTs and ongoing professional development opportunities for all staff. There is a great deal of respect and support amongst staff, and as a new colleague you will find that you are quickly welcomed into the Cardinal Langley family.
*
We are immensely proud of all of our students, whatever their talents, abilities and achievements. We have a fantastic Additional Needs department supporting our SEND children and a strong pastoral team working to ensure that our more vulnerable students get the care and encouragement they need to fulfil their potential.
*
We are located in Middleton, North Manchester, and have excellent transport links via the M62 and M60. Situated centrally in the UK and only 7 miles from the centre of Manchester, our location provides easy access to a range of superb leisure and shopping facilities but is also close to the natural beauty of the Pennines. We are within easy reach of Lancashire, Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Cheshire and Merseyside, with excellent road and rail links - and several international airports close by for those holiday getaways.
*
Values and vision: The spiritual development of students is at the centre of the purpose of Cardinal Langley Roman Catholic High School; it expresses its Welcome, Word, Worship, Welfare and Witness in all that it does. It strives to recognise, value and respond to the needs of all, so that they may take their place in modern society, acting justly, loving tenderly and walking humbly with God. The school also aims to live the values of: love, respect, forgiveness, compassion, honesty, fairness and responsibility, so that all feel safe and valued.
*
Ofsted: “ The headteacher’s leadership is strong and effective. He has developed a strong team of leaders, which has enhanced the school. Teaching overall is good. Pupils achieve well in most subjects across the curriculum and pupils are safe and happy in school. Pupils’ behaviour is good and the great majority have positive attitudes to learning. They work hard and take pride in their work. The school is a harmonious community where pupils show good respect for one another and for staff.”
