What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking to enhance our school support team through the appointment of a Learning Mentor who will contribute to the pastoral care and academic support we provide for all our pupils. Ribblesdale School is an all-through school; we welcomed our first Reception class September 2024. It is likely that a considerable proportion of this role will be based in either our secondary or primary provision, but the successful applicant must be able to work across the entire age range. The ability and willingness to support pupils with their progress in literacy and/or numeracy would be an advantage.

The successful applicant will work collaboratively with our teachers and other support staff to ensure that the holistic learning needs of all pupils with special educational needs are met. Our Learning Mentors establish positive, supportive and constructive relationships with pupils, parents, carers and school staff, contributing ideas and strategies for the benefit of our pupils. They assist with the planning, delivery and evaluation of the curriculum, ensuring that high-quality learning experiences are accessed by all.

As a Learning Mentor at Ribblesdale, you will:

  • Plan and deliver learning activities for individuals and groups across the whole age range of the school
  • Plan and deliver a range of intervention strategies, some of which may take place before school and during pupils’ breaks and lunchtimes
  • Provide 1:1 and small group mentoring sessions for vulnerable pupils
