Learning Mentor job summary

The Governors are looking to recruit an additional Learning mentor to start as soon as possible, until the end of July 2024, with the possibility of the contract being extended if funding permits it.

  • Have you got experience of managing challenging behaviour in young people?
  • Are you confident, determined and motivated to engender a positive approach to learning and a positive view of self and others in young people?
  • A willingness to be adaptable and innovative to meet the specific needs of the young people in our care.
  • Do you work efficiently, effectively and remain calm, consistent and solution focused under pressure?
  • Have you got a proven track record in a youth work, a family support role or mentoring?
  • Do you have the capacity to engage young people through practical learning?

If you can answer yes to these questions you may be the right candidate for us to work with young people who have emotional, social and behavioural needs or those who are returning to a mainstream setting from the pupil referral unit.
The successful candidate will have responsibility for designing the programmes of support and intervention, which will support our students to be fully engaged in their education. The candidate will also support our outside of the classroom learning, encouraging students to learn practical and real life skills through real life experiences.

To think and plan creatively will be essential. Significant experience of working in behaviour management settings and with young people who are in secondary education is a benefit for this role.

The successful candidates will work with our students to help improve behaviour choices and remove barriers to learning. The successful candidates must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to demonstrate high levels of emotional intelligence.
