What skills and experience we're looking for
Westways Primary School is looking for an inspirational individual to join us at an exciting time in our journey. The role of the Learning Mentor is to ensure that our pupils are supported to be successful both inside and outside school. Our children are at the heart of everything we do. As a member of the Westways Team, working under the direction of the Inclusion Manager and Designated Safeguarding Lead, you will assume responsibility for the safety and welfare of our pupils.
Your main duties will include:
- Supporting individuals and groups of children to ensure their academic, social and emotional needs are met;
- Engaging with families and carers in order to bring out the best in the children;
- Continuing to monitor attendance and punctuality;
- Maintaining detailed individual and group records;
- Undertaking assessments of children to ensure their academic and social and emotional needs are met;
- Attending meetings and reporting to senior leaders;
- Supporting children at unstructured times of the day;
- Directing members of the pastoral team;
- Being a member of the Safeguarding Team as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead;
- Working alongside our other Learning Mentor to manage our team of lunchtime supervisors.
We are looking for someone who:
- Is passionate about the rights of children, their learning, development and emotional growth;
- Has a good knowledge of a nurturing and restorative approach;
- Recognises the need to think and can to use their own initiative;
- Sees the value in strong links and positive communication with parents, outside agencies and the local community;
- Has good communication, numeracy and literacy skills;
- Is a flexible and effective team player;
- Has energy, resilience and a good sense of humour;
- Is prepared to challenge in order to get the best outcomes for our children.
