Learning Support Assistant job summary

Learning Support Assistant: Monday to Friday Mornings (term time only) 20 hours per week (4 hours per day)

The Governors of St Thomas of Canterbury School (part of the St Francis of Assisi Catholic Academy Trust) are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, energetic and caring Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to support a SEN child 1:1 Monday to Friday Mornings (term time only) 20 hours per week (10:45 am to 3:15 pm with half an hour for lunch). This post is paid at H2 - H3 depending on experience. It is a fixed term post (subject to funding) until July 2026, at which point it will be reviewed.

The candidate needs to be willing to work closely with the class teacher and support staff to adapt planning to suit the specific needs of the child. Ideally, applicants should have some experience of working with SEN children. Further training will be encouraged and supported. The school follows the Hertfordshire "STEPS" approach and works closely with the Rivers Primary Behaviour Support Service.

The applicant will need excellent interpersonal skills, relating both to children and adults, and have GCSE Grade C or above (or the equivalent) in Maths and English. The successful candidate will be joining a friendly, supportive team who have high expectations of children's learning.
