Salary: Grade 5, with opportunities for promotion as the school grows

Start date: TBC

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will support Teachers and Senior Teaching Assistants in enabling children and young people with communication and interaction needs to succeed at school (supporting KS2 - KS4 children and young people with GCSEs). You will put in place strategies that support pupils to engage in the curriculum and will be responsible for supporting learning activities for individuals and small groups. This will include supporting the emotional needs of our young people as well as their academic needs; preparing resources; and creating a safe, autism friendly environment.

We are looking for someone with a positive attitude who works well with others.

Skills and experience of working with young people who have communication & interaction needs/ autism would be of benefit, however, there will be a full induction programme for new staff and additional training where required. What is important to us is commitment to our overall ethos and approach. This is also an ideal position for someone wishing to work in a school to gain additional experience before following a career in teaching, educational psychology or speech and language therapy.

As a result of their special educational needs, many of our students will struggle with emotional regulation and this can lead to significant challenging behaviours. Candidates need to be prepared to adopt a problem-solving approach to the challenges that those young people bring.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and subject to a check being carried out at an Enhanced level by the Disclosure and Barring Service regarding any previous criminal record.

The Fusion Academy shares a commitment to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people. Our commitment is underpinned by robust processes and procedures that seek to maximise opportunity, minimise risk and continuously promote a culture that embraces the ethos of safeguarding amongst our workforce.
