Learning Support Assistant job summary
Successful candidates will work with individuals and small groups of students. Experience of working with secondary school age children would be an advantage.
Applicants should have a good general education, good literacy and numeracy skills and good written and verbal communication skills.
Main Duties
- Providing support and assistance to those students identified as being in need.
- Assisting the teaching staff to enhance the classroom learning experience.
- Contribute to the overall ethos and aims of the school by assisting students with their understanding of and compliance with policies and procedures and enhancing their ability to access opportunities for learning and development.
- Attend to students’ personal needs and implement related personal programmes, including social, health, physical, hygiene, and welfare matters.
- Supervise and support students, including those with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning in the classroom, during examinations and whilst on out of school activities.
- Establish good relationships with students, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs.
- Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all students.
- Encourage students to interact with others and engage in activities led by school staff.
- Encourage students to act independently as appropriate.
- Assist with the preparation and maintenance of a purposeful, orderly and supportive learning environment in accordance with lesson plans.
- Assist with the displaying of student work and the creation of displays to enhance the learning environment.
- Be aware of student problems / progress / achievements and report to the teacher / Learning Support Coordinator as agreed.
- Assist with student record keeping as requested.
- Support the class teacher / supervisor with the management of student behaviour, reporting difficulties as appropriate.
- Gather / report information from / to parents / carers as directed
- Support students in their understanding of instructions and their undertaking of tasks as directed by the teacher / supervisor.
- Support students in their use of ICT, literacy and numeracy skills in their learning.
- Prepare and assist with the maintenance of equipment and resources as directed by the teacher and assist students with their use.
Other Duties
· Provide clerical / administrative support as required e.g. photocopying, typing, filing, collecting money etc.
· Assist with the invigilation of examinations.
· Contribute to the overall ethos, work and aims of the school.
· Appreciate and support the role of other professionals.
· Attend relevant meetings and participate in training and other professional development activities.
· Accompany other staff and students on visits, trips and out of school activities as required.
· Assist with the supervision of students out of lesson times.
Pa Participate in training, other learning activities and performance development as required.
To promote and safeguard the welfare of students in your care or that you come into contact with in accordance with the Trust Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy.
Maintain own personal safety/health and safety and that of others by taking reasonable care, carrying out requirements of the law following recognised codes of practice.
The post holder is also required to be aware of and comply with the Leger Education Trust’s policies on health and safety.
