Learning Support Assistant D&HI job summary

About the Role

Aldercar High School is seeking a committed and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join our Inclusion team. You will work closely with teaching staff and the SENCO to support students, including those with special educational needs and hearing impairments, ensuring full access to learning and school life.

This is a rewarding and varied role where you will support both individual students and small groups, helping them develop academically, socially and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide in-class support and targeted interventions for individuals and small groups
  • Support students with additional needs, including communication and hearing impairments
  • Assist teachers in planning, preparing and delivering learning activities
  • Promote pupil engagement, independence and positive behaviour
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
  • Support students’ social, emotional and physical wellbeing, including personal care where required
  • Prepare resources and provide administrative support
  • Liaise with parents, staff and external professionals to support student needs

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is passionate about supporting young people to succeed
  • Has an understanding of special educational needs and inclusive practice
  • Communicates effectively and works well within a team
  • Is organised, reliable and proactive
  • Can adapt to meet the needs of students
  • Has good literacy and numeracy skills

Essential Qualifications

  • GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths (or equivalent)

Desirable:

  • Experience working with young people or in a support role
  • Experience supporting students with hearing or communication needs
  • First Aid qualification
