What skills and experience we're looking for
Cove School is a leading educational establishment committed to providing a dynamic and inclusive learning environment for pupils. Rated 'Good' by Ofsted (January 2020), Cove School has a well-resourced SEND department which offers high quality provision to meet the needs of children and young people with Special Educational Needs. We also have a Resourced Provision Unit for Hearing Impaired (HI) pupils. We have a part time Teacher of the Deaf (TOD) and a Learning Support Assistant who works very closely with the TOD.
Cove School is looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious Learning Support Assistant, who will be a crucial part of a pupil's educational journey, helping them overcome challenges and reach their full potential. We require a dedicated individual who is passionate about providing the highest standards of care, support and education to our pupils. Someone with a can-do attitude and commitment to young people and the SEND team at Cove School.
Under our new SENCO, the team has undergone a complete transformation and it is an exciting time to be part of a dedicated, ambitious and talented group of people.
Key Responsibilities:
1) Support for pupils
- Work with and support pupils who have additional needs within the ‘broad areas of need’ as outlined in the SEN code of practice 2015; Communication and Interaction, Cognition and Learning, Social, emotional and mental health difficulties and Sensory and/or physical needs.
- Help pupils to develop into independent learners to ensure they make good progress with their learning, as well as emotional well-being.
- Support pupils to access tasks and activities that they find challenging both inside the classroom.
2) Support for teachers
- Provide one-one or small group support to students with diverse learning needs.
- Assist in implementing lesson plans and adapting materials.
- Support and work with teacher in testing/assessment.
- In conjunction with teacher, liaise with parents and pupil progress.
