Learning Support Assistant for Alternative Provision Unit job summary

We currently have three schools within our Trust:

  • Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys - a long-established and successful boys’ school
  • Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls - opened in 2019 and has quickly become a beacon for success and progress
  • Bannockburn Primary School - a large, successful primary school that joined the Trust in November 2023

We also have a flourishing co-educational Sixth Form provision.

Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys is looking for a reliable and committed Learning Support Assistant to work within our Alternative Provision Unit. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting students who face barriers to learning, particularly those with behavioural or attendance challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • To plan and lead small group lessons and interventions, and support other staff during lessons, workshops and interventions
  • Accompany staff and students on offsite provisions, educational visits, and reward trips
  • Work one-to-one with referred students, including FAP students and those at risk of exclusion
  • Provide targeted support to disaffected Year 11 students in preparation for their GCSEs, ensuring they remain engaged and connected to the school community

Person Specification

  • Highly organised with strong literacy and numeracy skills
  • Previous experience is not essential, but confidence, empathy, and excellent interpersonal skills are key
  • Ability to build positive relationships and motivate students
