Learning Support Assistant (LSA) job summary
Castleford Academy is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join our inclusive and supportive team. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of pupils with special educational needs (SEN), helping them to access learning and thrive in a mainstream school environment.
As an LSA, you will work closely with the SEN Coordinator to support pupils across a range of needs. You’ll provide one-to-one and small group support, assist with personal care, and help pupils engage with learning activities both in and out of the classroom.
Key Responsibilities- Support pupils with a variety of special educational needs, including physical disabilities
- Assist with learning activities, supervision, and care across different settings
- Report pupil progress and concerns to teaching staff and contribute to individual education/behaviour plans
- Support pupils in using resources such as ICT.
- Participate in school visits and supervise pupils during non-lesson times
- Liaise with parents/carers and contribute to reports under the direction of the SENCo
- Uphold safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection standards
- GCSEs (A*-C / 9-4) in English and Maths or equivalent
- Experience working or caring for children
- Understanding of SEN and ability to relate well to pupils with additional needs
- Strong communication, teamwork, and initiative
- Level 2 or 3 SEN support qualifications desirable
- First Aid knowledge advantageous
- Compassionate, patient, and adaptable
- Enthusiastic and energetic with a commitment to pupil wellbeing
- A positive role model and team player
- Willingness to support whole school events and personal development
