Learning Support Assistant job summary

This post is for 25 hours a week for 38 weeks a year

  • Are you passionate about improving outcomes for all children?

  • Do you have a proven track record of success of supporting pupils with varying needs across school settings?

Shotley is a unique, lively and inclusive community school with dedicated staff and community who strive to reach the school’s vision of ‘Nurturing a community of lifelong learners’. Based on the peninsula, surrounded by farm fields and overlooking the river, it is sometimes hard to attract staff to this remote area, but there is so much to offer just on the doorstep including maritime history, farm visits and a woodland school and allotments. The school is 20 minutes drive from the Orwell Bridge, so it is often easier to reach than some of our town centre schools.

As a school we focus on the Shotley Bees that include aims like: ‘Being Ready’,’Being respectful’ and ‘Being kind’. Our overall aim is that children leave us with the self-confidence, skills and strategies they need to succeed in the next step of their education. To do this we work together to help pupils identify their barriers and find solutions to overcome them and become the best version of themselves they can be.

We would like to encourage applicants to apply who:

  • are efficient, conscientious and enthusiastic

  • have a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification and experience of SEND or an EYFS Qualification

  • believe that all children have the potential to do well.

  • have a calm and organised approach to working

  • are capable of working with and taking advice from external agencies

  • are confident and assertive in dealing with challenging behaviours

  • are interested in helping children to develop positive learning behaviours

  • can adapt to duties and responsibilities as per the needs of the pupils in your care

  • good English and maths skills

We can offer you:

  • the chance to be part of a small community that is part of the much larger ASSET family.

  • passionate and spirited children.

  • an opportunity to work with a friendly and skilled team of support assistants, teachers and leaders from across the Trust

  • a network of support across 14 ASSET schools and external providers

  • ongoing professional development to further flourish your career, including opportunities to be supported into HLTS and teaching roles.

Visits can be made available on request via admin@shotley.org.uk. Please return completed applications by email to the same address.
