What skills and experience we're looking for

The Windmills Junior School is seeking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant. This will involve working as a LSA in the classroom, supporting the learning for those that need extra support and taking out small groups or individuals to do focused activities planned by the teacher. This post also requires the applicant to work as a mid-day-meals supervisor through the lunch period and provide first aid and administer medicine to the children in their care. Although this position is temporary at this point there may be an opportunity to extend this if funding that is expected comes through.

We are keen to interview those with the right skill set of being able to support children to learn. We have some flexibility with the hours that we are offering. Ideally, we would welcome someone who could work 5 days a week but there is also the possibility of working just afternoons or for fewer days.

Having a fantastic team around the children ensures that we reach our goals. We are looking for a positive, calm, flexible individual to join us. We see the role of Learning Support Assistants as essential to children’s learning and therefore require a passionate, skilled, and professional person to take on this key role. Good English and maths skills are essential to support our learners make progress. Recent experience in a primary school and working with children is desirable but not essential.

  • be able to build positive relationships with children and adults alike
  • have an optimistic and positive attitude and be flexible to the demands of the job
  • be patient and able to stay calm and listen to and value the children
  • positive about working with young people with disabilities, learning and behavioural needs and working to find strategies to support these children to succeed
  • be suitably qualified for the post of Learning Support Assistant i.e. have a good literacy and numeracy skills (to GCSE level or higher)
  • have good mathematical skills that could be used to support children working up to year 6 (good understanding of tables, division, problem solving and fractions)
  • be able to work as part of a team, and
  • have the ability to maintain confidentiality
