Learning Support Assistant (University Placement) job summary

We are looking for a pro-active and reliable Learning Support Assistant (‘LSA) who will apply their own GCSE, A-Level and undergraduate degree level subject knowledge as well as their enthusiasm and creativity to support the progress and development of our students. The LSA will supervise our Learning Support classroom where students with varying learning difficulties as well as mental health requirements gather throughout the day. The LSA will also deliver tailored support to students across the curriculum. The LSA will assist with revision and catch-up work either one-to-one or in small groups and will provide students with strategies to help them build their confidence and improve their organisational, executive and time management skills. They will also be a listening ear for individual students and help them with anything that may be worrying them and/or holding them back from achieving their individual academic objectives. The LSA will be applying their subject knowledge both in providing academic support as well as in providing pastoral support

The LSA will work in conjunction with the Learning Support Team / Safeguarding Team / Pastoral Team to assist in developing overall provision in school and with parents to improve their confidence in building their own and their child’s resilience. The LSA will work alongside our wider team of LSA’s and will report to the SENCo. We are looking for a team player, with a willingness to acquire an understanding of the educational objectives and ethos of the school. The Learning Support Assistant should be keen to build positive and supportive relationships with students and have the confidence to communicate with staff, students and parents/carers.

The LSA will support the wider Learning Support department with the gathering of teacher feedback, writing reports on students’ progress and collating and distributing reports both within the school and to external professionals. Due to the nature of the work the LSA will have apply discretion and sensitivity when accessing and handling personal, medical and other confidential data in accordance with GDPR legislation.

This role is particularly suited to an undergraduate Psychology or Educational degree student wishing to spend a placement (‘industry’) year to gain valuable experience working closely with adolescents between 11–18 years old.
