Learning Support Assistant (x2)

The Gatehouse (Based at Waltham Toll Bar Academy)

37 hours, term time only (195 days)

Salary: £28423 pro rata

Actual Salary: £24301.67

We are excited to announce that we are looking to appoint an ambitious, energetic and exceptional individual as a Learning Support Assistant within the new Specialist Provision at Waltham Toll Bar Academy.

The ‘Gatehouse’ opening in January will cater for up to 12 children from across North East Lincolnshire who have identified Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Children in our Care who have difficulties accessing mainstream education.

The Learning Support Assistants will work closely together and will play a key role, alongside the SENDCO and Lead Teacher of SEND, in collaborating with staff across the academy and colleagues in the Trust, local authority and external agencies to ensure a broad, balanced and specialist curriculum is provided for our children accessing the provision.

We are looking for an experienced learning support assistant who demonstrates a strong desire to ensure children, who have often had negative experiences of education, are able to develop their skills and confidence, using adaptive, personalised teaching strategies and 1:1 interventions.

It is crucial that the Learning Support Assistant creates a nurturing and empathic approach, prioritising child-centred relational approaches.

The successful candidate will hold ambitious expectations for all students with additional and special educational needs and disabilities and embed a culture where all can access the curriculum and learn effectively.

Lincolnshire Gateway Academy Trust are already working closely with Trauma Informed Schools UK to support the development of our vision, values and curriculum. It is essential the successful candidate champions our principles of trauma awareness and relational learning, building strong, trusting relationships with our children to create a safe learning environment.

An ability to be creative and adaptable in your approach is crucial. Experience of working with children across key stages is desirable. A commitment to ensuring The Gatehouse is fully inclusive and is part of the academy, is essential.

Experience of working with children with additional needs, including those with SEMH, is vital.

The Learning Support Assistant will have significant impact upon the lives and opportunities experienced by the young people of Waltham and across North East Lincolnshire.

The successful candidate will work alongside the Principal, Vice Principal of Inclusion, SENDCO, staff team and supportive Trust, shaping the direction of travel of the new Gatehouse Provision to re-engage students back in to education.

During the first year, the Gatehouse will offer 6 places and will increase up to 12 places to maximum capacity by the end of the first year.

Our ethos is one of an uncompromising drive to achieve the highest standards of outcomes and behaviour in a safe environment, which encourages every student to experience an exciting and creative climate for learning.

We place a strong emphasis upon pastoral care and our Learning Support Assistant will share the determination to offer the very best to our students so that they can thrive personally and academically.

This exciting role will start in December 2025 due to a ‘soft opening’ of the provision before the official opening in January 2026, though the start date can be discussed further at interview.

A full package of on-going CPD is in place to support our staff team as part of the whole school relational approach. This will include regular supervision.

Please contact the Vice Principal and Head of Inclusion, Miss Nicola Law, for further details about the role on - enquiries@tollbaracademy.co.uk.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. As part of this process, all successful applicants are required to apply for an enhanced DBS disclosure. Other checks including social media will be carried out in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education legislation.
