What skills and experience we're looking for

Oak Hill Academy is an amazing and popular school because we believe in all of our pupils and encourage them to reach their full potential through enjoyment and challenge.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, hardworking and have high expectations for all pupils within a Key Stage 2 setting. You will enjoy working as part of a class team under the direction of the class teacher and take pride in supporting pupils to achieve their full potential.

This role will involve providing dedicated support for a Year 6 pupil with social, emotional and communication needs, who requires additional support to access learning successfully within the classroom. The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher and SENDCo to implement agreed strategies, support emotional regulation, and help the pupil develop positive relationships with adults and peers.

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational member of staff who has experience of working with pupils with SEND, particularly those with social, emotional and mental health needs and communication difficulties. You will need to be patient, consistent, nurturing and able to follow structured support plans. Experience of supporting pupils with EHCPs and behaviour support strategies is desirable.

  • Educated to GCSE Level C or above in English and Maths

  • Confident, enthusiastic and have a passion for learning

  • Able to demonstrate excellent English skills (clear written and spoken English) along with good reading, writing and numeracy skills

  • Experienced in working with children with Special Educational Needs (SEND)

  • An excellent, enthusiastic and committed practitioner who believes in the value of continuing CPD

  • Someone who has high expectations of behaviour and achievement for all pupils

  • Creative and able to make a difference

  • Adaptable and aspirational

  • Committed to securing good outcomes for all pupils and have a belief that all can achieve well

  • Able to build good working relationships with staff, pupils and their parents/carers
