LEARNING SUPPORT PRACTITIONER
ASCOT ROAD PRIMARY SCHOOL
Line Manager: Headteacher
Pay Range: H3.5 £23,500 + £988 Fringe Allowance (Pro-Rata)
FTE Actual Starting Salary - £15,570 (including fringe)
Work Pattern: 27.5 hours per week 9.00am – 3.00pm daily (30 min break)
Weeks Worked: Term Time + 5 INSET days
We are looking for a talented Learning Support Practitioner to work with teachers to support teaching and learning across our school.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- A natural aptitude to work with children
- NVQ level 2 or above in Childcare or Teaching and Learning
- Secure knowledge of ICT and confident to deliver teaching and learning using ICT
- Work with individuals or small groups of pupils in the classroom under the direct supervision of teaching staff and provide feedback to the teacher
- Understanding of school policies and willing and able to work within these
- Effective communicator (both written and verbal)
- Able to work as part of a team
- Has a solution-focused approach to problem solving (a ‘Can do attitude’)
- Active Listener
- Motivated to learn new strategies to support learners
- Implement planned learning activities/teaching programmes as agreed with the teacher/Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo), adjusting activities according to pupils’ responses as appropriate
- Support pupil/s to understand instructions support independent learning and inclusion of all pupils
- Support the teacher in behaviour management and keeping pupil/s on task
- Support pupil/s in social and emotional well-being, reporting problems to the teacher as appropriate
- Prepare and clear up learning environment and resources, including photocopying, filing and the display and presentation of pupils work and contribute to maintaining a safe environment
Learning Support Practitioners in this role may also undertake some or all of the following:
- Support children’s learning through play
- Record basic pupil data
- Assist with break-time supervision including facilitating games and activities
- Assist with escorting pupils on educational visits
- Support pupils in using basic ICT
- Invigilate exams and tests
- Assist pupils with eating, dressing and hygiene, as required, whilst encouraging independence
Essential:
- Experience of working with children
- Is patient, warm and caring and enjoys spending time with children helping them learn and grow in confidence

- First class communication skills, both written and oral and a high standard of written and spoken English
- Excellent interpersonal skills

Desirable:
- Experience of supporting children with special educational needs
- Experience of supporting children with English as an additional language
- Previous experience or a training qualification in working with children
- First Aid Training
- Experience in a school setting
