LEARNING SUPPORT PRACTITIONER

ASCOT ROAD PRIMARY SCHOOL

Line Manager: Headteacher

Pay Range: H3.5 £23,500 + £988 Fringe Allowance (Pro-Rata)

FTE Actual Starting Salary - £15,570 (including fringe)

Work Pattern: 27.5 hours per week 9.00am – 3.00pm daily (30 min break)

Weeks Worked: Term Time + 5 INSET days


We are looking for a talented Learning Support Practitioner to work with teachers to support teaching and learning across our school.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • A natural aptitude to work with children
  • NVQ level 2 or above in Childcare or Teaching and Learning
  • Secure knowledge of ICT and confident to deliver teaching and learning using ICT
  • Work with individuals or small groups of pupils in the classroom under the direct supervision of teaching staff and provide feedback to the teacher
  • Understanding of school policies and willing and able to work within these
  • Effective communicator (both written and verbal)
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Has a solution-focused approach to problem solving (a ‘Can do attitude’)
  • Active Listener
  • Motivated to learn new strategies to support learners
  • Implement planned learning activities/teaching programmes as agreed with the teacher/Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo), adjusting activities according to pupils’ responses as appropriate
  • Support pupil/s to understand instructions support independent learning and inclusion of all pupils
  • Support the teacher in behaviour management and keeping pupil/s on task
  • Support pupil/s in social and emotional well-being, reporting problems to the teacher as appropriate
  • Prepare and clear up learning environment and resources, including photocopying, filing and the display and presentation of pupils work and contribute to maintaining a safe environment

Learning Support Practitioners in this role may also undertake some or all of the following:

  • Support children’s learning through play
  • Record basic pupil data
  • Assist with break-time supervision including facilitating games and activities
  • Assist with escorting pupils on educational visits
  • Support pupils in using basic ICT
  • Invigilate exams and tests
  • Assist pupils with eating, dressing and hygiene, as required, whilst encouraging independence

  • Experience of working with children
  • Is patient, warm and caring and enjoys spending time with children helping them learn and grow in confidence

Desirable:

  • Experience of supporting children with special educational needs
  • Experience of supporting children with English as an additional language
  • Previous experience or a training qualification in working with children
  • First Aid Training
  • Experience in a school setting
