Level 3 Inclusion Teaching Assistant (Early Years & KS1) job summary

To work under the guidance of the class teacher, HLTA, or SENDCo to provide high-quality support to children within our Early Years and KS1 team. A key part of this role will be supporting children in our internal inclusion classroom – helping to deliver a bespoke curriculum that meets the individual needs of pupils with SEND, promotes independence and supports progress.

 Planning and Teaching

  • Support the delivery of planned activities and lessons designed by the class teacher or HLTA, adapting tasks as necessary to meet the needs of individual pupils.

  • Prepare and organise resources in advance to ensure smooth delivery of learning experiences.

  • Lead small group sessions or 1:1 interventions as directed, using a play-based, sensory-informed approach in line with pupils’ personalised learning plans.

  • Take a lead in the inclusion classroom in the HLTA’s absence, following established routines and supporting planned activities.

Assessment and Record Keeping

  • Observe and monitor pupils’ responses and progress, providing verbal and written feedback to the class teacher and HLTA.

  • Contribute to informal assessment processes by sharing relevant insights, evidence of learning and key milestones.

  • Support the maintenance of records and contribute to APDR / EHCP review evidence where appropriate.

  • Ensure any information is accurately relayed in line with school systems and confidentiality expectations.

Support for Pupils

  • Foster positive, trusting relationships with pupils, promoting self-esteem, confidence and emotional wellbeing.

  • Implement agreed strategies and individual support plans, including those related to sensory regulation, communication and behaviour.

  • Provide pastoral care, including support during transitions, toileting, personal care (if required), and emotional regulation.

  • Promote inclusion and ensure all pupils are engaged in learning activities, both in the inclusion classroom and when working in the wider Early Years/KS1 team.

  • Promote high expectations in relation to pupil behaviour, and consistently implement the school behaviour policy and individual pupil plans.

Support for Others

  • Work collaboratively with the HLTA, class teachers and SENDCo to deliver a consistent and coordinated approach to supporting pupils with EHCPs.

  • Liaise professionally with parents and carers when appropriate, sharing observations or successes as directed.

  • Support teaching staff by maintaining tidy, organised and engaging learning spaces.

  • Provide occasional ad-hoc classroom cover if needed, following guidance from the class teacher or SLT.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Take part in regular professional development activities, including training related to SEND, EYFS and KS1 provision.

  • Attend staff meetings, INSET days and relevant training sessions as required.

  • Work in line with school and Trust policies, including safeguarding, health and safety, and behaviour.

  • Reflect on practice and engage positively with feedback and professional dialogue to support continuous improvement.

Other

  • The post has no direct responsibility for financial resources, though could be involved in occasional handling small amounts of cash, processing cheques, invoices, etc.

  • The post has some direct responsibility for physical resources, including safe/secure record keeping and maintenance and management of learning resources.

  • To cover classes at short notice as directed by the Headteacher.

  • To undertake first aid training and provide first aid cover.

  • To keep informed of school policy and updated information.

  • To participate in the performance review system for your designate.

  • To provide midday supervision of pupils, including supervision of the dining room and playground, and promotion of positive play activities under the supervision of the senior midday supervisor.

 Active involvement in day-to-day management of the learning environment including responsibility for the care and preparation of teaching aids, equipment, materials and differentiated resources.  

  • Undertake routine and non-routine administrative tasks, eg produce worksheets, administer coursework  

  • Liaise with parents/carers, specialist teachers and other professional staff, share and provide information
