Little Wings – Classroom Teacher and Department Lead (Studley Green) job summary

Chiltern Wood School is a Special School currently supporting over 200 students ranging from ages 3 to 19 years. We are currently based over three sites, and this role is based at our newest site, Studley Green. This currently consists of three classes and will be extended to four classes in September 2026. This old primary school site has recently been renovated to meet the needs of our complex cohort, including therapeutic spaces: swing room, sensory room and soft play. Each classroom benefits from their own outside area, as well as a shared adventure playground.

Therapeutic interventions are fully immersed into class timetables and our key focus areas are communication, regulation and learning for life. We benefit from both our own and consultant occupational therapists and speech and language therapists. Our therapeutic team and other external professionals work closely with our teaching teams.

This is an exciting opening for someone who is hoping to progress their career and take on an additional responsibility with our youngest cohort aged 4 to 7. The department leader will be responsible for the development of teaching and learning within the department and line managing the teachers. The successful candidate will also be responsible for organising staffing across the classes alongside the admin team.

As Class Teacher the successful candidate will work directly with children with complex learning, social and sensory needs. In addition, will have a strong desire to work with a challenging and rewarding group of pupils, and understand how to build positive relationships with pupils, their families and supporting professionals. Communication, regulation and life skills are at the core of our curriculum.

We strongly encourage all potential candidates to come and tour the school and speak to a member of the leadership team for more information. Please also see the job description for more details. We look forward to welcoming a new department leader to our extended leadership team. We do reserve the right to close this advertisement early if we receive a high volume of suitable applications

Chiltern Wood School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of its pupils and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to full vetting checks, including a disclosure of criminal records at an enhanced level, online searches and satisfactory references

Closing Date: Tuesday 22nd April 9am

Interviews: Thursday 24th April
